Welcome To Another New Club

JNZ wishes to welcome a new club to the federation.

Pacific MMA have affiliated a judo club operating in Rotorua (WBOP) and we look forward to seeing them at events in the future.

Best of luck TJ and Paul in getting the judo club operating.

 
Latest IJF Referee Rules

The IJF have just released the latest version of the Refereee Rules.

These can be found by logging in to the JNZ website, selecting "Documents", then "Organisation".

 
JNZ Fax Number Discontinued

Due to extremely low demand for the JNZ fax number over recent years, this number will be discontinued within the fortnight.

Scan and e-mail attachment appears to be the preferred method of sending documents, so please continue with this process. All other contact numbers remain unchanged.

 
Obituary - Mick Yarrow

YARROW, Philip William (Mick).  Passed away peacefully at home on 13 June 2012, aged 81 years and at Mick’s request the family held a private cremation.

Mick was a Wellington judo identity for many years and was a member of Budokan and the YMCA at various times. As a member of the 1966 New Zealand Team (standing far left), Mick won the Oceania Open title, and also won bronze in the light-heavyweight division.

Olympic Judo On Sky TV

Sky TV have announced very comprehensive coverage for this year's Olympics. All subscribers will have 5 channels devoted to the games, and My Sky will have an additional 3 channels. Prime will also have 23.5 hours coverage per day free to air.

 

Attached is the judo viewing schedule provided by Sky, including delayed coverage of the Womens -70kg category on 2 August. No details of the Prime coverage have been provided as yet.

2012 Nationals Confirmed For Christchurch

As you are all aware last years Nationals were shifted from Christchurch to Auckland because of the infrastructure damage as a result of the earthquakes.

Our Christchurch judo colleagues have made it very clear that they are keen to host this years Nationals and have been given the go ahead from Judo New Zealand.

Trip To All Japan Masters

A Masters team from New Zealand is going to the All Japan Masters Judo Championships to be held on the 10th and 11th of November to continue the tradition started in 2003 of having New Zealand Masters at this event.

This trip is available to all Masters competitors from New Zealand who are registered with Judo New Zealand.

New First Aid Module

The first of the new judo specific, 3 hour first aid modules was trialled in Hamilton last Saturday.

The module is part of the new Coaching Education program and was delivered to a group of WBOP Area club coaches by St Johns at the Henkada club.

These modules are available to Areas at a fixed rate for a maximum of 20 participants. They must be scheduled through JNZ.

 
New Club Coaching Course Launched

A group of committed club and assistant club coaches attended the first of the revised club coaching courses in a snow covered Christchurch last weekend.

The group had a wide variety of experience in club coaching, and worked very well together over the 2 days. The JNZ Club Support Commission will use this experience to fine tune the program prior to delivering the next course.

NZL Olympic Qualifier

The NZOC has today announced that Moira de Villiers has been selected in the NZL Olympic Team to compete at the 2012 London Olympics.

Moira has been training in Europe for most of the past 2 years in an attempt to qualify. She finished 18th on the IJF Olympic Qualification Ranking List in the -70kg category, and met all the criteria required by the NZ Olympic Committee.

We wish Moira all the best in her build up to the Games, and in the competition itself.

 
Sky TV Schedule

As promised, attached is the schedule outlining screening dates, times, and channels just received from Sky. Note that the first episode is on this Monday!

As part of an agreement between the OJU and Sky TV negotiated last year, there will be a further 9 episodes of International Judo highlights broadcast on Sky Channels starting next month.

As soon as we are advised a screening schedule we will publish it on the website and inform all clubs.

 
Kapiti Judo Club Scoops Awards

Kapiti Judo Club have again been successful at the local Pak'N"Save Kapiti Sportspersons of the Year Awards.

Llyod Tarrant was awarded Coach of the Year and Norm Cook Volunteer of the Year. Congratulations to both and the club.

 
Changes To JNZ Coaching Education

Some changes in JNZ Commission structure and responsibilities have recently been approved by the JNZ Board. These changes were introduced to allow for review of the Club Coaching Education programs delivered by JNZ.

 

Attached is some initial information regarding some of the initiatives being worked on by the Club Support Commission, under the banner "ABC - Assisting Better Coaching". More information will be communicated as progress is made.

All Japan High Grade Shiai

Rick Littlewood (UNI AK) recently took part in the All Japan High Grade Shiai held at the Kodokan. Rick reports an entry of 1450 5th Dan and above requiring the use of 2 floors at the Kodokan in addition to the main dojo!

Rick advises that he swiftly dealt with his opponent, and encourages more JNZ members to enter next year.

 
NZL Team OJU Results

The NZL Team completed a good OJU tournament with 31 medals (10 Gold, 9 Silver, and 12 Bronze). This total includes the teams event where the NZL Women won gold and the Men bronze.

Congratulations to all the athletes and coaching / management team.
