“do or not do - there is no try”

Kiwi Mahana Clutha competed and won silver at the London International Tournament recently.

The event was held at the Excel Centre, which provided an excellent opportunity to fight in what will be the venue for Judo at the London 2012 games.

Mahana fought several big names in the British Judo scene, including catching former Welsh, Scottish and English senior champion Janine Johnson with a clean O Soto Gari for Ippon. Johnson trains at Mahana's former base at University of Bath under coaches Juergen Klinger and Roy Inman OBE.  Kate Walker, also from Bath and currently ranked 80th on the IJF International rankings caught Mahana with an unfortunate drop seoi which the referees gave Ippon in a controversial decision. Bouncing back from the loss, Mahana completely dominated Dobrowolski, throwing her twice with Uchi Mata... the second time for Ippon.

Mahana's final match against 2010 British Open champion was the hardest fight of the day, a brutal grip-fighting affair that sadly ended when a Mahana was caught with a drop seoi near the end which ruined Mahana's chance of beating one of Team GB's Olympic hopefuls.
