“do or not do - there is no try”
Dave Browne elected as President of Judo New Zealand
Tuesday, 16 September 2008 00:00

brownedDavid Browne was appointed as President of The New Zealand Judo Federation at the weekend after long term office holder, Harry O’Rourke decided not to stand again and devote his energies towards the Commonwealth Judo Association of which he is President.

Harry was awarded the position of Honorary Past President at the Congress and warmly thanked for his work in the Presidential role over the past 23 years.

David is an International referee who officiated at the Athens and recent Beijing Olympics and has been a Vice President of the Judo New Zealand for the past two years. He was a member of a Review Team that lead to recent constitutional and structural changes within Judo New Zealand that will look to grow the sport in the country.

Elections were also held for three positions on the Board of Directors, resulting in the following Board composition:

David Browne (President)
Chris Purcell
Joy Williams
Derek Maggs
Steve Tarring

A Life Membership was awarded by the 2008 Congress to Vince Dennehy who has been the Treasurer of the NZJF for over 30 years. The role of Treasurer disappears under our new constitution and we are extremely grateful to Vince for his sterling work and commitment to the Federation over that time.
