“do or not do - there is no try”
JNZ "Fight For Gold" Campaign
Friday, 30 October 2009 11:51

The 2009 Nationals saw the launch of the "Fight For Gold" campaign aimed at securing podium finishes for our athletes at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Past Commonwealth Games Judo medalists were honoured with the unveiling of banners commemorating their success, and another banner challenges our up and coming athletes to work hard to become our next Commonwealth Games medalists in Glasgow.

Those present at the ceremony included Brent Cooper (Gold, 1990 Auckland), Graeme Spinks (Silver 1990 Auckland), Wayne Watson (Bronze 1990 Auckland), as well as most other members of this highly successful Commonwealth Games team. Unfortunately unable to attend were Donna Guy (Silver, 1990 Auckland and Bronze 1984 World Champs), Nicola Morris (Bronze, 1990 Auckland) and Tim Slyfield (Bronze, 2002 Manchester).
Judo is not on the program for next year's Delhi Commonwealth Games, but Auckland is currently considering posting a bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and Judo New Zealand will be working hard to be included as a sport at this event if the bid goes ahead.
