“do or not do - there is no try”

Tuesday, 25 August 2009 00:00
The New Zealand Olympic Committee have just announced the winners of a nationwide campaign to select two young people to attend the 2010 Youth Olympic Games Friendship Camp. Each National Sports organisation was allowed one male and one female applicant. The announcement included the following statement;

“The following applicants have been chosen to represent the New Zealand Olympic Committee and their respective National Sports Federations at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Friendship Camp, 8-12 December 2009.

Phillippa Wood – Yachting New Zealand

Vinay Reddy – Judo New Zealand

The calibre of the applicants was very high, which made the final selection a difficult task.  However, the NZOC is confident that Phillippa and Vinay will represent New Zealand with pride and befitting the honor that has been bestowed upon them.”

Vinay is a member of the Nippon Judo Club on Auckland’s North Shore, and has competed successfully and trained both in New Zealand and internationally. He is also involved in a number of other Olympic sports.

The 5 day camp is aimed at developing the spirit of Olympism, and will be attended by representatives of all the nations invited to compete in next year’s Youth Olympics to be held in August in Singapore.
