Gisborne Judo wins Club and Coach of the Year awards
Saturday, 25 July 2009 11:20
Gisborne Judo Club had outstanding results at the recent Tairawhiti Sports Awards. They were awarded "Club of the Year" and Jason King won "Coach of the Year" for the third consecutive year.

GJC were the recipients of the “Club of the Year” three years ago, the first year the Awards were held.

Gisborne Judo Club were up against other codes who also had excellent results, including a Surf Life Saving Club and a Board Riders Club.  The criteria for the top award included Performance Results, Coaches/Officials/Administrators, Internal Club Initiatives, Structure etc .  Due to a pro-active and committed group of volunteers and administrators, GJC were able to demonstrate achievement and success in all areas.

Head Coach Jason King was also up against some hot contenders for the “Coach of the Year Award”.  He was speechless when he received his award and dedicated it to the Club (when he was finally able to utter something). Again, the success of the club in competitions was built around a group of passionate coaches who are prepared to sacrifice time and effort to consistently get their players to competitions all around the North Island.

Jason, Clayton Kingston, and Kiki Velloza were there to receive the awards as shown in the photo, had a great night (luckily NOT shown in a photo), and received lots of congratulations from other sports people which was fantastic for the club and for Judo.

Congratulations to Jason and the entire Gisborne Judo Club family – now you need to start working for next year’s awards!
