Rick Littlewood (UNI AK) recently competed in the Kodokan High Grades Shiai 7th Dan Shiai.

Rick has been a regular attendee at this event for many years now giving us a NZ presence.

In this competition you are matched with an equivalent grade, weight and aged competitor and have just the one fight. On the 29th April Rick again won his shiai event. In addition, Rick was honoured by being presented with a trophy and certificate for being the best Kodokan 7th Dan. He is the first non Japanese ever to be presented with this honour.

Congratulations Rick!

Every year the Kodokan (Tokyo) the historical home of Judo holds their high grade shiai competition which is open to all those who have Kodokan 5th Dan grade and above, and are +30 yrs of age.

Rick was able to prove to himself that he is over recent heart issues and is back to normal self and at the age of 74 yrs thinks he could perhaps get back into serious judo. Good luck with that Rick!

Rick also received special recognition from the President of the Kodokan and Sports Director of the International Judo Federation, Haruki Uemura Sensei who after the presentation personally congratulated Rick on his win.
