“do or not do - there is no try”
Fond Farewell to Hiro
Wednesday, 13 May 2015 08:44

We will soon be saying goodbye to a positive contributor to New Zealand Judo.

Since coming from Japan in 2010, Hironori (Hiro) Matsuo (PMN NW) has been a regular on the New Zealand Judo circuit, impressing with his dynamic style.

Along with his achievements at on the competition circuit, it will be his contribution to local club Judo that Hiro will be remembered and recognised for also.

We wish Hiro well and a huge thank-you for his contribution as he nears the end of his stay in New Zealand and wish him every success on his return home to Kobe, Japan in June.

In the time he has been in NZ, Hiro was National Mens under 66Kg champion in 2010, 2011, and 2013, and also won gold at the North Wellington Judo Champs in 4 consecutive years from 2010 to 2013, not including his many medals at North Island Championships.

Hiro has been a regular at the Palmerston North Judo Club where he has imparted training knowledge and techniques unique to his style to juniors and seniors alike.

Known for his devastating Sode Suri and strong Seoi Nage in competition, Hiro has been open about sharing these techniques including setup and entry.

Hiro took out the Open title at this year's North Wellington Judo Champs which will be his last, with only a couple more tournaments afterward as he looks to head home. Safe trip Hiro, and thanks for your contribution.
