Kapiti Judo Club had the privilege of Mr Toru Takeuchi, a visiting Japanese teacher from the Tokai University attend their club on 3rd February, while he visits with Kapiti College’s sister school.  He was accompanied by two students who participate in Judo at Tokai-Urayasu Junior High School.

Mr Takeuchi, coach for a top Japanese high school judo team, is a highly regarded judoka, holding a 6th Dan.  He teaches Physical Education, History and Social Studies at Tokai University plus Judo at the Urayasa High School which is associated with the university.

The club members were very lucky to have him visit to learn some techniques from him as his depth of knowledge and experience is vast.  The Junior members were excited to have Mr Takeuchi with them, and impressed by the skills he exhibited in the display he gave.  Junior member, Angus Love, said “it was cool to have a real Japanese sensei come see us”.

Thanks to club member, Shinako Murakami, who co-ordinated this visit.
