“do or not do - there is no try”
Glasgow Games Day 2
Monday, 04 August 2014 13:42

AdrianThe second day of CG Judo action had the team buzzing after a great day 1.

In action were Adrian Leat (JNH AK) -73, Mark Brewer (MOT CD) and Ivica Pavlinic (MET WB) -81, and Moira de Villiers (CAN CA) -70.

Adrian set the early pace by disposing of his Welsh opponent with a spectacular Ippon. In a field of 25, Adrian attracted widespread comment for his dynamic judo, winning against Tanzania round 2, then taking out the favoured and seeded Emmanuel Nartey (GHA) - again both with awesome ippons. The final against England's Danny Webster was a tough fight with Adrian conceding an early score. Williams managed to climb off some good uchimata attacks and sat on his lead until the end, giving Ado a silver medal.

Ivica Pavlinic had a bye in -81, and drew Burt (CAN) second round. Despite having beaten this player previously, the Canadian came out on top this time which prevented Ivica from progressing.

In the same category, Mark Brewer defeated his Seychelles opponent, but then lost to the other Canadian in the category. Mark then progressed to the repechages, losing to the Cypriate, and finished in 7th place.

Moira de Villiers started with a strong win against Canada, and then defeated Catherine Arscott (AUS) to make the final. This was against Fletcher (ENG) who had earlier taken out top seed and local favourite Sally Conway. Unfortunately a single mistake resulted in a strong tateshihogatame that Moira was unable to escape from.

Another great day at the Judo with Team NZL adding 2 silver.
