The large NZ Judo team competing at this weekend's OJU Championships achieved a total of 29 medals, including 9 OJU titles across Cadet, Junior, and Senior divisions.

This year's event was attended by teams from 9 countries from the Oceania region, and attracted 179 competitors. the event was attended by the President of the IJF, Mr Marius Vizer who commented positively on the performance of the younger competitors.

Team New Zealand finished with 9 gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze medals to finish a clear second on the medal table. It was pleasing to see the Juniors continue to compare favourably with the Australians, and for the Seniors to improve on the 2 finalsits we had at the last event to reach 6 finals and take 2 titles (Sean Choi and Moira de Villiers). It is hoped to build on this success for next year's event to be held at the end of March (possibly in Tahiti).

Congratulations to all medallists, and to the entire team and officials for a job well done.

NZ medallists are attached, and a comprehensive analysis of the event is available at
