“do or not do - there is no try”
NZ Judo Player Selected For Youth Olympics
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 13:03

New Zealand has been allocated a place in the judo competition at the first Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore next month.

The allocated slot is in the female -63kg category and Haley Baxter (KAI CA) has been selected to represent New Zealand.

The inaugural Youth Olympics will be held from  14-26 August, including the sports contested at the summer Olympic Games - although some are in modified formats. The judo competition has been condensed by combining alternate weight categories (Hayley will be competing in the 52 - 63kg category).

The IJF qualifying event for the Youth Olympics was last year's World Cadet Championships. Unfortunately NZ's only entry had to withdraw due to injury, so we had to rely on the IJF and IOC to allocate a slot. As far as we are aware, Haley will be the only competitor from Oceania competing in the judo competition.

Unfortunately due to the timing, Haley has had to withdraw from the Junior Womens competition at the OJU Champs which are on at the same time.

Accompanying Haley will be JNZ High Performance Director Johan Boshoff, and David Browne who has been selected as a referee by the IJF for the event.

Congratulations and best of luck Haley!
