He was one of the founders of the still active Can Am Ju club in 1953, as well as the Canterbury Provincial Judo League (now the Canterbury Area Judo Association) of which he was the first Director and President.

Jack was President of the NZ Judo Federation from 1963-65 and 1971-73. He was made an Honorary Past President in 1995.

Mr Fielding became JNZ's first Life Member in 1971, and was also a life Member of Can Am Ju and Canterbury Area.

The funeral service will be held at the Westpark Chapel, Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village, Christchurch at 10am, 1 November.

Our condolences go to Jack's relatives and also his "judo family".

The NZL team of 9 athletes competed at the Senior World Championships in Rio recently.

The individual results were mixed, with the best performance from Ivica Pavlinic (MET WB) who won his way through 3 rounds to achieve a top 16 placing in the -81kg category. Jason Koster (CAN CA) also won his first fight, before losing in the next round. Jason also "backed up" with a silver in an international competition in Santiago, Chile the following week.

The mens team qualified as one of 16 for the World Teams Championship by winning the OJU Teams event. Unfortunately they drew Japan first round, losing 1-4.

Well done to all, and some more valuable World Ranking points in the bank!

Three More Clubs Affiliate
Wednesday, 28 August 2013 11:00

JNZ again welcomes 3 new clubs who have recently affiliated.

Spartan Judo Club (SJC WB) has opened in Cambridge, run by Spiros Poros: Forgotten Art of Judo (FAJ NW) underway in Palmerston North, run by Hamish Rees; and Olympic Judo Albany run bt Bill Vincent on Auckland's North Shore.

This brings the total to 10 new clubs affiliated so far in 2013 - a pleasing trend that will hopefully result in an increase of membership and Judo being available to more people in NZ.

JNZ welcomes these new clubs and wishes them all the best of success.

Crowd Goes Wild
Wednesday, 21 August 2013 09:50

Josh Kronfeld joined members of the NZL Senior Worlds team for an introduction to Judo which screened on the Prime television show "The Crowd Goes Wild".

Unfortunately JNZ was advised extremely late on the screening date and so we were unable to advise prior to it screening last evening.

However, good exposure, and another opportunity to wish the NZL team well for the World Champs in Rio next week.
