Proposed Iran Judo Delegation Visit

Former Judo World Champion and Iran's Judo Federation Vice President Mr. Arash Miresmaeili is due to visit New Zealand to hold talks with JNZ on exploring ways and options that both National federations could cooperate.

Details on his visit will be released by Judo New Zealand upon confirmation, but it is intended that a training opportunity with Mr Miresmaelli will be arranged.

Three Iranians will be competing in the Rio 2016 Judo Olympics, and the first Iranian to compete in NZ - Ben Shadmanian - achieved a bronze medal in the Senior Men's -90kg category at the recent Auckland International Open.

Mr Shadmanian is involved in working with JNZ and the Iranian embassy to arrange the visit.

Mr. Binyamin Shadmanian, represented the Islamic Republic of Iran in -90 weight category, and won the bronze medal.

There were competitors from 11 countries, and over 380 total entires in all categories.

Mr. Shadmanian became the first Iranian National to represent Iran in New Zealand  judo competitions.

"I see a great importance on ways to promote Judo internationally, and cooperation between national judo federations" Mr. Shadmanian said.

Mr. Shadmanian's Judo technical training was done in Iran, were he spent nearly four months with his coach training for the AIO, and also practiced in NZ clubs.

"New Zealand is a sports nation, I feel humbled and privileged that i had the opportunity to participate in the AIO, and win a medal for my country in Judo". Mr Shadmanian added.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to New Zealand praised and congratulated Mr. Shadmanian on his medal at the AIO, as there were no Iranians that previously represented Iran in International competitions in New Zealand.
