“do or not do - there is no try”
Glasgow Games Day 3
Tuesday, 05 August 2014 09:33

Tim and JasonDay 3 of the Commonwealth Games Judo saw the heavy weights in action.

NZL team members Ryan Dill-Russell (JNH AK) -90, Jason Koster (CAN CA), Tim Slyfield (UNI AK), -100, and Sam Rosser (WJA AK) were all in action on the final day.

All 4 started well in the preliminary rounds, and all qualified for the medal round.

Ryan was carrying an injury received in the build up to the Games, but managed to defeat Sri Lanka in the second round after a bye. Ryan lost to the eventual gold medallist in the semi-final, and unfortunately could not get passed the Englishman in the bronze fight, finishing 5th.

The -100kg category saw Jason getting passed India in the second round, and Tim beating Wales on the other side of the draw. Jason lost his semi-final to the favoured top seed (and eventual gold medallist) Ewan Burton of Scotland, and Tim went down to his Pakistani opponent. Jason dispatched Australia's Duke Didier to take bronze, and Tim completely dominated his Indian opponent to join Jason on the podium with the second bronze.

Sam took out his Indian opponent in the second round after a bye, and then faced hometown crowd favourite Chris Sherrington in the semi- final. Sam unfortunately conceded this fight, and then lost his bronze medal contest to finish 5th in the category

A pleasing way to end the campaign with another 2 medals to finish the day.
